  1. Crystal, this is very insightful! I am walking away from this video with “Ask for referrals” stuck in my head. Although my customers love my Cheesecakes, I never ask them for anything else, but repeated business (i.e. “Keep me in mind for your next event,” etc…). However, I never ask them to speak about me to their friends, co-workers, and other businesses. Thank you for your wisdom!

  2. Well first off, Crytal’s concept here is so clever, there’s nothing to say but—I’m totally impressed!

I can attest to the value of postive word-of-mouth. It was the basis of my business as a freelancer years ago, long before social media. I rarely advertised or had to hustle for work because, being good at what I do and professional at all times, happy clients passed my name around. There’s no way to exaggerate the value and the absolute importance of great customer service — utmost professionalism at all times, meeting every deadline without fail, always on-time for meetings, easy to contact, available and focused, etc. — because referrals and word-of-mouth is the best advertising there is.

    1. Thanks Edwina! I agree, word of mouth is by far the best form of marketing! Did you ever set up a formal word-of-mouth system?
